Prayer in the world marketplace
Prayer in the marketplace may sound like something that belongs to Bible times. But the marketplace in this Profile is the arena where people tackle such issues as world indebtedness. As this account indicates, prayer can lead to remarkable decisions, and solutions to some of the most challenging questions of our times. This account is told by Peter H. Johnson, who is a banker in the field of international finance.
In 1985 I was the head of my bank's office in a third world city. The job was undemanding, and my family enjoyed living in a very comfortable fashion. Lovely as all this was, I had an unsatisfied desire to work harder for the betterment of mankind and not just for personal gain or material comforts.
My wife and I prayed to know that God, divine Mind, governs not just our thinking but our experience as well. Impelled by what we felt was an unselfish and right desire, we made plans to return to New York even though the bank had no position open for me to take.
