In 1986, when I had been studying Christian Science for two years, my two little sisters (who were fifteen and eleven years old at the time) had been suffering for a long time with dental cavities. It wasn't unusual to see them in great pain.

One day, while studying the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I saw them looking for the medicine they usually took to relieve the pain, but it was all used up. I took this opportunity to suggest they try Christian Science treatment. They accepted. I spoke to them of God, Spirit, and of His perfect spiritual creation, which excludes sickness and pain. I told them that we are all included in this perfect creation.

That morning I had had a wonderful realization that Christ Jesus thanked God before his demonstrations of spiritual power (see the abundant supply of bread and the resurrection of Lazarus in the Gospel of John). This showed me that Jesus trusted God completely. I tried to do likewise, mentally affirming that because God, Spirit, is good, the idea He created could not be subject to decay or any other kind of evil. As is stated in Science and Health, "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive."
