My mother took up the study of Christian Science in her teens after her mother's healing of a serious illness through prayer. Mother went on to raise her family in Christian Science and to help others, eventually becoming a Christian Science practitioner. Whenever there was a physical difficulty in the family, it was always healed through prayer.
Besides the healings of disease commonly associated with children, I had, for example, quick healings after I stepped barefoot on a board with rusty nails, and at a time when I cut my head from a fall.
Later, during active duty in the Second World War, I found that the spiritual preparation Christian Science had given me provided a strong foundation to meet the challenges I encountered.
