What's required for spiritual healing?

Receptivity, a willingness to change, dedication to the truth of being—these are the keys to healing.

What is required to be regenerated and healed spiritually? A number of factors are involved. One is how sincerely we dedicate ourselves to understanding and applying the truth of being, as explained in Christian Science. Another is how receptive we are to our true, spiritual individuality. We need to identify ourselves with this individuality, not as a spiritual abstraction but as the only true selfhood we've ever had.

This latter is especially important because the belief that we are sinners and must suffer endlessly the consequences, or that some unfortunate happening in the past determines our well-being today, is deeply imbedded in human consciousness. Christian Science explains that working out our salvation from sin, sickness, and death is a daily opportunity. It's not a future event that takes place only after death. Nor is it accomplished just by acknowledging that Christ Jesus is our personal Saviour. We must live the truth we know. To disregard what we think, the way we conduct ourselves, or the feelings we may harbor delays or even blocks spiritual healing and moral regeneration.

Christian Science teaches that God's spiritual, healing law is available for all to utilize to be redeemed and healed, right now. As Paul says, "Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation" (II Corinthians). This is so because each one of us has in reality a spiritual relationship with God, as His reflection. In the degree this relationship is understood and demonstrated, spiritual regeneration and healing take place.
