A couple of years ago I sat down and wrote a list of healings I have experienced through the application of Christian Science. As a result of making this list, I realized I have much to be grateful for. Since my parents are lifelong Christian Scientists, I was raised with the understanding that this way of life and method of healing is safe, reliable, powerful, and permanent.

My healings have ranged from some of the so-called childhood diseases, warts, and the effects of a skiing accident, to the supply of employment, housing, and right companionship. While each experience has taught me something new about my relationship to God, there are two healings that are particularly significant to me.

The summer before my senior year of high school I started to get a series of large and painful boils. They were rather noticeable, most being on my face (a fate worse than death for a teenage girl, or so it seemed to me); and they sometimes obscured my vision because of swelling near my eyes. As I prayed about this condition, I came to feel that I needed to get a clearer understanding of man's God-given purity, as His likeness. I needed to cleanse my thoughts, particularly in regard to how I saw myself, how I viewed others, and how I believed that others viewed me. Through prayer, my thoughts became fresher, purer, and the boils disappeared. During this period it was helpful for me to keep in mind the beatitude "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God." It has been ten years since this healing occurred.
