INSIDE: LOOKING INTO THIS ISSUE

Wherever you look today, people are advocating change. Many feel strongly that a great deal must be done—and done quickly. And there are many more now who want to help change things. In all of this hustle, do the majestic, quiet pages of the Bible have any role to play? Or are they useful only for some calmer, less troubled, cloistered time?

That kind of question would certainly be quickly dismissed by the Russian clergymen who during the attempted coup in the Soviet Union faced down soldiers with only the New Testament in their hands.

The simple fact is that the Bible gives far more than quiet solace. The amazing power of spiritual truth and reality behind its words gives moral courage, steels conviction in the practical force of obedience to God, cuts through confusion and impossible conflict. In the Scriptures we find omnipresent Spirit, God, showing us how the laws of divine Love and intelligence exactly meet the human need. Writers in this issue have found this, whether the need was for healing or for the protection of a valuable wilderness area.
