My introduction to Christian Science came in 1896 when, at the age of two years, my mother took me with her to a city thousands of miles away to make funeral arrangements for her sister, who was dying. A close friend of my aunt's urged my aunt to try Christian Science, and a Christian Science practitioner was called for prayerful help. The following morning, my aunt rose from her bed completely healed.
This healing was told to me by my mother, though she was not interested in Christian Science. However, my aunt began to study the Bible and Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy and to practice what she learned.
When I was about twelve years old, this aunt visited us and told me about Mrs. Eddy's discovery of God's healing law. During her visit my aunt asked if she could treat me through prayer for a goiter, which was then becoming quite evident, and which had been accepted as an inherited problem. Through the Christian Science treatments given to me by my aunt, the goiter soon vanished.
