Words cannot express my gratitude for Christian Science

Words cannot express my gratitude for Christian Science. The practice of this teaching has met my family's needs for the healing of difficulties and for financial provision; it has also restored relationships that had become inharmonious. Whatever has confronted us under the heading of discord, Christian Science has brought the answer and the healing. Is it any wonder that my heart sings with praises to God for His ever-present help and His omnipotence?

My maternal grandmother was introduced to Christian Science in the late 1800s when she and my grandfather moved west as pioneers. She had suffered with severe attacks of asthma and had taken medication for its relief but had never found a cure. A neighbor introduced her to Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, the Christian Science textbook by Mary Baker Eddy. My grandmother began an earnest study of Christian Science and attended the informal gatherings made up of a handful of students. She was healed, and God was her only physician for over fifty years.

As a young woman my mother turned away from the teachings of Christian Science. I remember her recalling that she resented Science and did not like her mother to speak of it. Referring to the hatred expressed toward Christ Jesus, Mrs. Eddy writes in her book Christian Healing: "But why should the world hate Jesus, the loved of the Father, the loved of Love? It was that his spirituality rebuked their carnality, and gave this proof of Christianity that religions had not given."
