"When the illusion of sickness or sin tempts you, cling steadfastly to God and His idea. Allow nothing but His likeness to abide in your thought." This passage from the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, came to mind one night when I woke with abdominal pain. I began to pray, and I also pondered "the scientific statement of being" from Science and Health. The following morning the pain was gone.
A couple of nights later I again felt this pain in my abdomen. Thoughts were trying to creep into my thinking, such as: Where does this come from? What can this be? I realized very clearly, however, that pain was not created by God, the only creator, and therefore it did not belong to me and I did not have to accept it. A few lines from a hymn in the Christian Science Hymnal that I love very much came to mind:
