Years ago I rented a room from someone who was a student of Christian Science. I had never heard of this teaching, although at the time I was searching for a deeper understanding of God. I began to read Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy and to attend a branch Church of Christ, Scientist.
I had many difficulties and felt in need of God's help. A number of companies had turned me down for employment because of a service disability and lack of education. While I had been working as a day laborer carrying heavy loads, a double hernia had developed which added to my discouragement. The doctor who had operated on these hernias had apologized, saying that the operation hadn't been successful and would have to be repeated.
Going regularly to Sunday services and Wednesday testimony meetings in the branch church, I soon discovered that this religion brought healing to the members. At the meetings I started listening carefully to those who testified about their healings.
