Stronger than ever

Vitality and energy. We all need them to keep pace with the demands of life. And spiritual understanding reveals an unending supply.

For someone faced with physical weakness, it may at times seem as if the only solutions being offered come from cereal boxes or exercise programs. From this standpoint, one may well wonder if there is any present-day significance to the Bible's message "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength." But the fact that the Bible contains so many accounts of people who found that God can and does revive human strength, even in the most desperate condition of weakness, warrants a more thoughtful look at this subject.

The Bible tells us God is Spirit. So His strength must be spiritual. Our Father, God, made man in His own likeness, Scripture reveals. In other words, the one creative power, God, expresses His own qualities, including His strength, in man.

Limited strength obviously doesn't express the Almighty. Isn't it clear, then, that mortal, material man, believing himself to be at one time strong and at another weak, cannot possibly be the real man of God's making? Of this real man Mrs. Eddy writes, "Strength is in man, not in muscles ...." (See The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany.)
