A HEART FOR COMMUNITY
It's natural to care deeply about community. Real love for family extends to neighbors—and overflows for the whole of society. This occasional column tells of how a spiritual perspective has been helping Sentinel readers help others and make a contribution to healing some of the collective challenges facing communities today.
Living in a big city wouldn't have been my first choice, but my work was there. I found myself yearning for a home in the country, a garden, pets.
Because of my living situation, I couldn't keep a pet, but I enjoyed watching other people's dogs out on their daily romps in the local park. One day I met a woman who told me her dog had come from a nearby animal shelter. When I expressed an interest, she explained how to get there. I started visiting the shelter regularly.
