"Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me" (Psalms). These words were a great comfort and strength for me when I was passing through a difficult time.

In March of 1986, when I was in another country, I became very ill. Thanks to The Herald of Christian Science, which includes a listing of Christian Science practitioners, I was able to find a practitioner. She agreed to pray for me, and I improved and was able to return to my country, making the long trip without any difficulty. When I arrived home, however, one foot was painful and swollen. I had had a small cut on my heel, and after several days my leg had some red stripes and blisters on it.

I called a practitioner, who took my case and spoke to me with much love. Also, I had the help of a Christian Science nurse in cleaning the leg. Through the work of these two loving people, I began to get better. But then my husband, who had agreed earlier that I have only Christian Science treatment, asked that I be taken to a doctor for an examination. The doctor told me that I had erysipelas, that I should take antibiotics, receive a series of injections, and visit a specialist. I thanked him and left the office but I continued with Christian Science treatment. I didn't take even one pill; I continued to pray and rely on God.
