Finding freedom from fear

We can't be paralyzed by fear when we understand the nature of God's love for each of us.

When I was a law student preparing to take my state's bar examination, which is required for the practice of law, a professor shared an anecdote that illustrates the importance of overcoming fear.

The story goes that a very capable law student who had messy handwriting became adept at using a typewriter. During the bar exam, a room is provided for those who want to type their answers rather than write them out by hand. The student arrived at the typing room equipped with two typewriters, keeping the second as a backup.

With the exam in full swing, his first typewriter jammed. Without hesitating, he put it aside and began using the second one. After a short while the second typewriter broke down, too. Overcome with panic, the student sat helplessly staring at his paper. At this point, a compassionate fellow student reached over and handed him a pen. He wrote out the remaining answers and passed the test.
