I'm not sure just what led me to the study of Christian Science, but perhaps it was a desire for a sense of direction and purpose in life. I was about halfway through graduate studies at a large university. Though more years of schooling lay ahead, my funds were running out. I wondered if I was doing the right thing.

When I began to study the Bible Lessons provided in the Christian Science Quarterly, I was impressed with the fact that prayer is practical—prayer can provide solutions. My religious training had led me to believe that God could give only emotional comfort in times of stress, but now my study brought a new feeling of God's love, power, and care. Some verses in Proverbs seemed almost a command: "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

In this new light I humbly and earnestly prayed to see what I should do, putting aside pride and fear of the future. After some months I was led to change my major to a completely different field. This proved to be a beneficial change; I completed my degree in less than one year, receiving a substantial scholarship plus a stipend. These studies have since led to a very satisfying career.
