A people ready to catch the vision
We all know people who even in the middle of routine daily life look beyond and see things that often go unnoticed. This makes all the difference.
That's the important lesson in the story about Christ Jesus' visit to the home of Lazarus and his two sisters, Mary and Martha. Martha was fretting about many things. In fact, Martha was so caught up in the details of preparing for their guest that she chided Mary for not helping. But Mary couldn't take herself away from the Master. She must have held on to his every word. Jesus responded, "Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her."
Our lives, too, can become filled up with the details of daily life. We can spend so much effort looking after things that we fail to choose "that good part." And the good part is the spiritual vision of God's presence and of our relationship to God that needs nourishing and development in us.
