I wish to express gratitude for all the marvelous experiences...

I wish to express gratitude for all the marvelous experiences of healing through Christian Science I have had over the years. One of these was the healing of what was either a broken or severely sprained foot. While in high school I was on the wrestling team. Shortly before Christmas vacation I was injured during a practice match. My foot had caught on the mats when I was attempting to sidestep my opponent's rush forward. I fell and could not get back up. The coach had me helped into his office, where he removed my wrestling shoe.

My foot wasn't examined by a physician, but it had an extremely misshapen appearance. The coach bound it tightly and notified my parents. Before school adjourned for Christmas vacation I got around on crutches borrowed from the school nurse.

Oh, how I loved all the attention from my schoolmates! I felt like a warrior receiving lauds and honor. I was willing to put up with the pain in order to get the attention. I did not see then what a false sense of glory this was. Injury or accident cannot be glorified. We must devote our attention to the things of Spirit and not to the glorification of body or material conditions. I know this now, but back in my high-school days I had no idea that this attitude was what was truly in need of healing.
