Our life in the kingdom of heaven is now
God's kingdom is not some far-off place or future state of being. We can find our life in His kingdom now.
When, through our study of Christian Science, we glimpse our spiritual wholeness to the extent that a healing results, we're experiencing, in some degree, what Christ Jesus called the kingdom of heaven "within." But what if there are periods when our understanding of God's kingdom does not seem to be growing to the degree that we have hoped for?
We needn't be discouraged. The glimpses of spiritual reality we do see can foster a healthy dissatisfaction with life—one that impels us to bring more spiritual light to what goes on between the glimpses.
Once, when I was feeling this dissatisfaction much of the time, I began to ponder the nature of God's kingdom more persistently. For some time it seemed as if my pondering and prayer were to no avail. But eventually I realized that I had been seeking to understand more about God's kingdom without fully recognizing the impact of how I saw others on this understanding. I had to ask myself if my everyday thoughts about people were reflecting a better understanding of God and His kingdom. Or was there materialism in my thinking, blocking the inspiration I was seeking and preventing me from being more helpful to others?
