In early childhood I was enrolled in a Christian Science Sunday School, where I became acquainted with God and learned of His all-embracing love. When I was twelve years old I had an experience in which I learned how ever present divine Love is.
One day I was dismissed from school with a cold. I looked forward to returning home, where I knew my mother would comfort me. But when I got home she wasn't there. Reading the Bible Lessons (outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly) had always been a comfort to me, so I took the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and started to read the current lesson. A sentence from Science and Health stood out to me: "The evidence of divine Mind's healing power and absolute control is to me as certain as the evidence of my own existence." I knew of my true existence as a child of God, and I reasoned that divine Mind's healing power must be just as real.
When my mother returned home twenty minutes later, I was perfectly free—no stuffy head or sore throat. I, indeed, had felt the presence and comfort of God's love. This healing gave me the conviction that I could practice Christian Science and experience its healing benefits.
