If you have questions about Christian Science ...

Why is Christian Science not just a matter of faith? How does it heal disease?

When we moved to a new area of the country, we mentioned to our neighbors that we were Christian Scientists. They were curious and wanted to know how Christian Science healing works. There were a number of thoughtful questions about our views of the nature of God, matter, and the material universe. They also wanted to know how Christian Scientists pray.

One day a neighbor remarked, "Some people have enough faith to try spiritual healing, but there are others who don't. That's the determining factor—whether you have enough faith." And then she went on to say that she was one of those people who had too little faith.

In response, I tried to explain that Christian Science is based on an understanding of God that helps us increase our faith. I could identify with her viewpoint, however, because before I started studying Christian Science (and for quite a while afterward too!), I often saw myself as someone of little faith. But as I continued to study and gradually became more willing to put into practice what I was learning, doubts about God's healing power began to fade.
