The Bible—a sure guide

Those "long-ago" Biblical figures were people just like you and me. And the help they got from God is just as available to us as it was to them.

Who has not wondered at some time or other, "What is life all about?" "Why am I here?" Or perhaps, "Is there anything, anywhere, that can help me?" Whether the trouble we need help with is sickness, sin, lack, a discordant relationship, or something else, we can find answers to these questions in the Bible.

Mrs. Eddy, in her search to understand God, a search that culminated in the discovery of Christian Science, also asked many such questions and faced such challenges. She devoted several years to consecrated Bible study and to the writing of Science and Health. She wrote of the Bible's role in her discovery: "The Bible has been my only authority. I have had no other guide in 'the straight and narrow way' of Truth." Science and Health, p. 126.

Only as we gain the spiritual sense of the Bible can we begin to understand something of its true and eternal meaning; to understand that the healings of Christ Jesus were not miracles but demonstrations of divine power, of God's laws. These spiritual laws are just as powerful—and provable—now as they were in Jesus' time. And students of Christian Science continue to provide such proofs, as the accounts of healing published in this Sentinel testify.
