About two years ago I was working in my yard, assisting in the removal of a very large eucalyptus tree. I was holding a rope that was tied to the top of the tree so as to guide the tree when it fell.
As the tree started to thunder down, my feet became entangled in the rope and I was thrown sharply onto the concrete driveway. I was dazed, but the first thing that came to me was the opening line from "the scientific statement of being," Mrs. Eddy's strong statement on man's true nature as God's reflection. This sentence, found in Science and Health, states, "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter." That matter—what seemed to be badly damaged matter— couldn't interfere with my true life and substance was just what I needed to know. Relying on that fact, and with the help of my wife and others, I was taken into the house and laid on a bed.
