Value your beautiful, God-given identity
Deep inside, everyone wants to feel beautiful and loved. A spiritual understanding of God and man answers this desire as nothing else can.
When I was a little girl, the classic story of The Ugly Duckling by Hans Christian Andersen was one of my favorites. The very idea that hidden within the gawky and plain "duckling" (with whom I easily identified) there was an elegant and beautiful swan thrilled me. In my secret thoughts I knew that somewhere, deep inside, there was grace and beauty in me, even if only my mother and I knew it was there!
In later years, after becoming a student of Christian Science, I learned that the innate beauty of each individual is a provable fact. As I studied Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy as a companion to the Bible, my understanding of God deepened and expanded, opening up new views of my own nature as His child, as man created in the image and likeness of Spirit, not matter.
Better understanding the nature of God as Spirit enables us to recognize our own spiritual nature as His likeness and lifts the coverings imposed by conventional, matter-based thinking, which would hide our spiritual identity and tell us that we are material. God, being infinite Spirit, could not and certainly would not create man as only partially spiritual and thus subject to all kinds of trouble.
