I Was raised in Christian Science
I Was raised in Christian Science. Both of my parents were Christian Scientists, and I regularly went to a Christian Science Sunday School. However, during my teen years I did not always practice the morals I had been taught.
When I was seventeen, I was involved in a car accident. Because I was unconscious, I was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. My parents were notified and were soon with me. Upon regaining consciousness, I found that I was not able to sit up. The doctors believed that there was a problem with my back and were concerned that I would not be able to walk again.
I remember the calm, loving manner of my parents as they asked me to make a decision. Did I wish to pursue medical treatment or call one of the few adults I still could relate to—my Sunday School teacher? Throughout my childhood I had witnessed many physical healings in my family through total reliance on God. It was natural for me to turn to this method, for it was what I knew. I asked them to call my teacher, who agreed to pray for me. Within the hour I was sitting up and walking, and soon I went home.
