"Fight the good fight"

Human life is often a battle. With Christ, Truth, our battles can be victorious ones.

One often hears the phrase "the battle of life." And looking at the many challenges one faces each day, we may feel that this description is quite appropriate! Many individuals in all parts of the world, some right in our own neighborhoods, are fighting for their very lives. For many others their daily challenges, though perhaps not life-threatening, many still be giving them plenty to deal with.

How do you go about coping with the daily battles of life? Are you facing them fearlessly and confidently? Or do you see yourself as a helpless victim of the circumstances of the moment, hoping that "everything will just turn out all right"? Unfortunately, many people are following that latter path, but this doesn't have to be!

The first line of a hymn in the Christian Science Hymnal reads, "Fight the good fight with all thy might, / Christ is thy strength, and Christ thy right." Those reassuring words and the rest of that hymn have always meant a great deal to many Christian Scientists. The hymn reassures us that with Christ, Truth, at our side, the battle of human life is one we can fight with vigor—and win!
