I would like to express my gratitude for Christian Science and for the increased spiritual understanding I gained from an experience I had while living in a large city in an Asian country. I was studying the language of this country and learning to live in a different culture. When I started to develop a cough and sore throat, I thought about the fact that, as far as I knew, I was one of only a few Christian Scientists in a nation of hundreds of millions of people; the nearest Christian Science practitioner I knew was on the other side of the world. I became fearful.
Later that day I went to the American embassy on other business and there tried calling a practitioner I knew in the United States, but he was not home. I was on my own, but I realized that I already had all I needed to deal with this situation.
I rode my bicycle back to the school and started studying Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I realized that just because I was a long way from the familiar world that I had, until then, lived in, the truth of God and man was still available, was still true. I saw that this truth was valid no matter how many of the people around me believed differently than I, and that no matter where I went I couldn't be separated from the source of my existence, God. I had thought of these spiritual truths before, but this time I had the understanding that they were true for me, right then, right there. As I conscientiously studied the Bible Lesson, the cough and sore throat were soon healed.
