The power in thanks giving
Going home to be with family deepens the feelings many Americans have about Thanksgiving.
But there's an even more powerful element to be recognized. It's one that is meaningful to anyone anywhere in the world, with or without a family, with or without a Thanksgiving tradition. There is simply remarkable spiritual power in the act of giving thanks.
The fact is that when we remember to be thankful we've taken a sizable step. It doesn't matter how little we may suppose we have to be grateful for or how inarticulate we seem to be in voicing our feelings. Even a modest step toward expressing gratitude is an important one. It's like a step that has the effect of carrying us all the way across the Grand Canyon.
