"And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first...

"And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea" (Revelation). This verse from the Bible is particularly significant to me because it symbolizes my first contact with Christian Science, which took place about fifteen years ago.

I had always looked for something lofty and sublime that would make me understand the essential purpose of man and his role in this existence. Sometimes I wondered if I would ever succeed in finding it. Now, looking back in the light of my study of Christian Science, I clearly understand that my desire and searching were a constant prayer. As we read in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, "Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds."

My wife became acquainted with Christian Science first. Seeing her so absorbed and interested in reading Science and Health, I thought that she had found one of the usual philosophies that don't lead to anything, much less to God. But she was definite in telling me that she had found something exceptional and that she was determined to go more deeply into it. Knowing my wife, I reasoned that if she placed so much emphasis on reading the book, it must concern something special.
