I had no real objections to my mother taking me to a Christian Science Sunday School from the time I was eight years old. But as time went along I had to decide for myself the path I needed to take. The summer I was seventeen and on my own working at a summer resort, I began studying Christian Science more diligently. As a result, I found that things just seemed to work out better for me.
Approximately a year and a half later I enlisted in a college naval training program at the engineering school I was attending. I was not to begin active duty in the armed services for six months.
During the middle of the semester at the college, prior to my reporting for active duty, my ankle became infected. I could not walk. I could not eat, and other bodily functions ceased for a period. The condition appeared to be that of blood poisoning.
