"God didn't create His children to destroy each other"
Prayer for peace calls for vigilance, for a willingness to take a larger responsibility for what goes on in our world. While there are many reports of citizens' groups willing to pray and work for peace, we felt it would be interesting to hear the point of view of a military expert who feels prayer can make a difference.
Admiral Stansfield Turner is probably best known for his many years of public service. During his thirty years as an officer in the United States Navy, he held such positions as president of the Naval War College, Commander of the Second Fleet, and Commander in Chief of the Southern Flank of NATO. In 1977 President Jimmy Carter selected him to be Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, a position he held for four years. Since then he has been active as a commentator, lecturer, writer, and teacher.
For some people prayer and the military may seem an uneasy mix. Does any particular experience you had in the military stand out to you as an example of the importance of prayer?
