Two years ago my wife and I decided to spend our winter vacation in Hawaii. About three days after our arrival, I woke in the morning with a very painful and disfiguring facial condition. The left side of my face was paralyzed, and my lower jaw was out of alignment. There were other symptoms, including pain.
When the pain became intense, I called a Christian Science practitioner for help. I also prayed myself to understand that I was governed by the law of God, not by any so-called law of matter. I knew that this recognition would help me effectively overcome the condition.
Our apartment was about a fifteen-minute walk from a Christian Science Reading Room, and each day my wife and I would spend an hour or more there. What a relief it was to be able to study undistracted. That Reading Room was a refuge, and I will always be grateful that Mrs. Eddy made provision in the Manual of The Mother Church for Christian Science Reading Rooms.
