Recently as I was reading a testimony of mine published in The Christian Science Journal of October 1969, and one in the Sentinel of September 6, 1975, I realized how many healings I have had since and felt the desire to sit right down and again express my deep gratitude for Christian Science.
One day I went to get something out of my car, and after doing so I shut the door on the fingers of my right hand. I had put the keys in a deep pocket on the right side of my dress, and I could not reach them with my left hand. As I stood there I thought of what I had learned through my study of Christian Science—that all is Spirit and spiritual. We read in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 463), "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive." I believed this statement and had proved it many times and knew I could now. I also knew, as the Bible tells us in Psalm 46 (verse 1), "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." I didn't have to wait.
I was able to pull the fingers out. To all appearances they were severely injured, but I claimed my spiritual selfhood as a child of God right then as I went into the house. As my sister and I had been studying the weekly Bible Lesson (outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly), I continued this study for about an hour. Then I was able to go about my daily duties.
