Like many others, I feel a written testimony of my gratitude for Christian Science is long overdue. I was brought up in Christian Science by a very loving and dedicated mother who really lived the truths of this Science, and I have had many healings.
Several years ago when my children were quite small and needed a great deal of care, I woke one morning feeling very unwell. I felt unable to get out of bed or even to think clearly, as I was so weak and dizzy. After some hours in bed, I realized I was accepting the belief that I was simply subject to laws of matter with all its limitations. I picked up a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy and turned to the chapter "Recapitulation," which I had been studying. I read the question "What is Life?" and began to think about the ideas included in the answer, which begins (p. 468): "Life is divine Principle, Mind, Soul, Spirit. Life is without beginning and without end."
I remember laughing to myself at this point. What had I been believing? Not that Life is God, good, harmonious, and eternal. I had to change my outlook from a negative, matter-confined one to a spiritual—and correct—one. I realized I was actually at that moment the perfect, whole reflection of God—His beloved child. Now I had to put this into practice, and I knew I could with God to guide and support me.
