I would like to express gratitude for my first healing in Christian Science. My grandmother introduced our family to Science when I was still a girl. One day when I was fourteen I was playing outside with my sister near the place where a house was being built. We were told by the men working on the house not to go barefoot as there were nails on the ground and on the boards. I had on a pair of rubber sandals. Just as my sister was telling me to watch out for the nails sticking up on a board, I stepped on three nails. My sister helped me wash off my foot.

I went into my house and called my mother to ask her to pray for me, and she said she would. Then in my bedroom I started reading the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I remember being very fearful at first, but I overcame this fear as I prayed and studied. Within three days the foot was completely healed, and there are no marks or scars on my foot.

I'm grateful for all the blessings we have had in my own family. One day I went to see my daughter's teacher for a parent-teacher conference. The teacher mentioned that chicken pox was spreading among the students in her classroom, and she asked me if my daughter had it. I said no, I hadn't known anything about it. When I went home I saw signs of the disease on the girl. I began praying right away. I knew this condition couldn't be a part of her as God's perfect child, as the expression of good. I affirmed that my daughter (and everyone) is under the control of the one divine Mind, the only power. I studied both the description of man that begins on page 475 and "the scientific statement of being" on page 468 of Science and Health.
