Christian Science has been practiced in our family for many years. A diary of my grandfather's, written in 1889, gives an account of his telegraphing a practitioner (Sarah Pine, a student of Mrs. Eddy), who came to his home and prayed for my grandmother, who was suffering from pneumonia. In a few hours all was well; my grandmother was completely healed.

I recall hearing my grandmother and mother read the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy when I was a youngster. Later, an aunt and her family came to stay in our home. They were all students of Science. My aunt held Sunday School for my cousin, my sister, and me. She also organized church services for the family and a group of our neighbors. I found my hopes answered in Christian Science. Later, I had class instruction from this aunt, who had become an authorized teacher of Christian Science.

Our family has had numerous proofs of God's care. During World War II my husband was overseas on the front lines for two and a half years. We knew that he was always in God's care, and he returned safely home. Later, as our two children were growing up, and in recent years, as we have traveled throughout the country in our motor home, we have seen over and over that "all things work together for good to them that love God" (Rom. 8:28).
