A painful condition involving fever and inflammation affected my legs and made standing or walking almost impossible. A Christian Science practitioner was called for help through prayer, and her declarations of Truth were assuring and comforting. We vigorously affirmed that God is omnipresent, that there is no space where God is not. This conviction undergirded our prayer.

Although there was some progress, the condition worsened; and I was challenged with discouragement. I held to the fact that there is no fear in the allness of God, Love; that there is not memory or fear of a painful condition to oppose God's allness and perfect care. Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy states (p. 74): "In Christian Science there is never a retrograde step, never a return to positions outgrown." We start with Principle, God, and we can hold that position.

One night when the pain was extreme, the thought came to me, "It's not just healing that I want. What I really want is to be a clear transparency, reflecting God's perfection, harmony, and completeness. I want to glorify God." This was my answer to the suggestion of being too tired to pray anymore. I felt as if I had turned an important corner. I became less concerned with the difficulty and knew that this was an opportunity to draw closer to God, to learn more of His infinite love, and to see myself included in this love, cared for and cherished.
