I was brought up in Christian Science by devoted and conscientious parents. Their example impressed me with the desire to do right, to love, and to obey God's law. As a child, I was free from so-called childhood diseases, major accidents, and the fear of illness. To this day I have never taken any medicine. Prayer in Christian Science has always been sufficient to take care of my every need.

In high school I became more persistent in my study of Science. The beliefs of peer and academic pressure forced me to delve deeply into Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, so much so that I carried the book in my purse at school and read it between classes. All that I learned from reading Science and Health enabled me to have my first instantaneous healing. In the middle of biology class, when I suddenly felt quite ill, I discerned the perfect logic of these words from "the scientific statement of being" (p. 468): "Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual." Something "clicked" in my thought, and I could see what this passage meant. At that instant all discomfort vanished.

College provided me with many opportunities to prove God's power. Toward the end of one semester, dates for term papers, examinations, and piano recitals all fell in the same week. It seemed there wasn't enough time to get everything done, and fear and confusion gripped me.
