Christian Science came to our family over fifty years ago...
Christian Science came to our family over fifty years ago when my grandfather was healed of a longstanding nervous disorder through the study of this Christianly scientific religion. After his healing, he and my grandmother enrolled their children in the Christian Science Sunday School. It was here that my father learned of man's true nature as the spiritual child of God. Through this understanding he was healed of a kidney difficulty.
My parents raised both my sister and me in Christian Science. I gained a very precious sense of man's spirituality, his true completeness and oneness with God, and this foundation helped me in overcoming fears and limitations as I grew up. I am now a member of the same branch church in which my grandparents and father were members. My husband and our two children also are learning through Christian Science the truths of man's relationship to God. I have an overflowing feeling of gratitude as I recall all the healings my family and I have had.
One spring some years ago a friend and I went to the ocean. The waves were very rough, and when I went into the water just to get a little wet, I was immediately caught up in the tossing waves. I struggled underwater to raise myself up to catch a breath. I came up a few times and cried for help, but no one seemed to hear me. I was afraid, and I felt I was going to drown. Then I realized I did not have to consent to death; God is my Life— eternal and ever present. I ceased to struggle anxiously and knew that God was caring for me. Very soon I was able to touch the bottom, and then my friend and another person pulled me out of the waves.
