In recent years, while visiting a greenhouse one day, I came in contact with plant foliage that left me with a painful infection. My hands and arms began to swell, and as the condition spread to my neck and face I was gripped by fear.
I had had a similar experience many years before and at that time had allowed myself to be taken to the hospital for medical treatment. In the intervening years I had become a serious student of Christian Science and had experienced clear proofs that the healing truths within the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, are demonstrable when earnestly sought and honestly applied. This time I was resolved to work out the difficulty metaphysically through prayer.
In reaching out for help I telephoned a Christian Science practitioner, who pointed out that all I was being called upon to do was to learn more about God. That didn't sound like a terrible thing to be called upon to do! I could feel my thought being lifted out of the morass of sickness and into the realm of Mind.
