Looking where, walking there
It may be a cold time,
a hard darkness for deciding
where to walk.
Still, He'll be there, always—
pillar of fire, pillar of cloud,
Still voice, one Word—
clear as light to the heart
of a child.
Perhaps the decision will come
after trust in ordinary ties
has gone—when friendship, family,
yearnings to be cared for, cease,
even familiar paths have turned to wilderness.
True power and blessing are
of God; true need is ever known—
to feel in His love His unconditional
acceptance of our love,
our earnest search
for innocence.
(Think of that Shunammite, trusting implicitly.
Of Joseph, who embraced the envious brothers
and forgave. Remember Paul, and how he left
"those things .... behind," and then pressed on.)
God's love designs where we already are.
We look where He has always been
and walk that way.
