During my freshman year in college, I had what I still consider an outstanding healing. When I fainted one morning from a troubling illness that included a severe throat infection, the dormitory housemother, knowing that I was a Christian Scientist, called my parents. My father came and took me home, and a Christian Science practitioner was called to help us pray about the situation. Although I was delirious and fearful, the practitioner asked that I come to the telephone and talk with her. She spoke confidently of the goodness, ever-presence, and power of God.
One afternoon a few days later, I was lying down when suddenly I felt afraid that I might pass on. I got up immediately, knowing that this could not be true because God was my Life. This realization was the turning point. Three days later I was back at college, completely healed and extremely grateful.
Other challenges were overcome the next year. My father passed away just two weeks after the fall semester started, and my academic studies suffered greatly as I grieved. However Christian Science again sustained me with its healing truth. Not only was I comforted and healed of my grief, but I was able to continue my work and graduate with my class in good standing. Later I had the happy experience of being the advisor to a Christian Science college organization for about ten years.
