I became interested in Christian Science when my wife began studying this teaching and applied for church membership. She provided me with a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, which I read occasionally, especially when traveling on business trips.

It was during the birth of our third child that I experienced the healing power of Christian Science. The child was stillborn, and the doctor's efforts to help her failed; but then through prayer and study of Science and Health she revived and was completely normal and healthy.

I think it was this proof of God's care for His children that impelled me to rely solely on Christian Science several years later when I became ill with rheumatic fever. I had contracted this disease as a child and been treated by doctors, but I had been left with a heart murmur. When I manifested symptoms of the fever as an adult, I called a Christian Science practitioner to pray for me. Then, when the fever began to abate, I was able to converse regularly with the practitioner on the telephone. One day she quoted this Bible passage to me (Rom. 8:16, 17): "We are the children of God: and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ." This helped me to understand my true spiritual heritage as the child of God, and my condition improved steadily from that point forward.
