Because of the current worldwide concern about addiction,...
Because of the current worldwide concern about addiction, I submit this testimony. The healing took place years ago.
Although I attended a Christian Science Sunday School as I grew up, during my mid-twenties I drifted away from these teachings. Soon I started smoking. Eventually I was smoking up to forty cigarettes a day and also smoking a pipe. When a physical illness developed, aggravated by an unpleasant cough, I became very frightened. In despair I asked my father, who was a devoted student of Science, to pray for me. He encouraged me to take up the study of Christian Science again, reminding me that "man's extremity is God's opportunity."
Some two or three weeks later, after studying the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy—and being supported by my father's prayerful work during this time—I realized one morning that I had no desire for a cigarette. It was a wonderful feeling of joy and freedom. I was healed. And, as I recall, within a very short time the physical difficulty (along with the cough) just disappeared.
