A fiery furnace
We can extinguish flames of envy, strife, and disappointment. Nothing can consume our spiritual selfhood, which is truly good and from God.
Did you ever feel as if you were in the midst of a hot, burning furnace? If not bodily, then mentally? Who hasn't at some time?
There were three Hebrew men, the book of Daniel tells us, who found themselves literally in a fiery furnace. They loved God and were faithful to Him. Even with the threat of death they did not waver. As a result, they were delivered. And not only were they delivered, but their religion gained respect and recognition throughout the land as a result of their devotion to their God. See Dan., chap. 3 .
Can't their example benefit us where we live right now? By bringing our thought and conduct into accord with God in every detail of our lives, we can begin step by step to prevail over whatever would claim to separate us from God, infinite Life and Love. Such God-based living expresses our devotion to the real, the godly qualities that we learn of in the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.
