"Virtually every area of congregational life is undergirded by a spiritual or devotional vision—except for the church's business life. Most boards, committees and task forces do their business in a secular rather than a spiritual way.
"But the church should not necessarily do its business in the same manner as secular organizations. If boards and committees think only of agendas and the practical demands that flow from them, the church risks neglecting its soul in the name of efficiency.
