Kaari's drawing lesson
Kaari has a bright yellow pencil with a pink eraser at one end and a sharp, black point at the other end. This pencil helps her draw some very special pictures. Her favorites are of her dog, Shadow. Shadow has short, shiny black fur, eyes that sparkle with fun, and a licky tongue. Kaari loves Shadow very much.
One night Kaari woke up crying. She told Mom her stomach hurt and she couldn't sleep. The whole family studies Christian Science, so Mom and Kaari were used to asking God for help.
They decided to sing her favorite hymn from the Christian Science Hymnal. The words are from a poem written by Mary Baker Eddy. Part of it goes, "His arm encircles me, and mine, and all." Hymnal, No. 207. Singing that hymn, Kaari felt warm and loved. She knew God really was taking care of her. She told Mom she thought she could go back to sleep again—and she did. But a couple of hours later she woke up crying again.
