While I was growing up in a family of five children, I witnessed many proofs of the healing power of Christian Science.

One healing that occurred during my junior year in high school stands out to me. Because of a painful sore throat I had stayed home from school. I prayed, pondering something I had learned in a Christian Science Sunday School—"the scientific statement of being" from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (see p. 468). I felt, as always, my parents' strong support through prayer.

My father, a Christian Science practitioner, came into my room with a copy of Science and Health and asked me if I would read out loud. As I read I spoke more easily. After I had read about a page and a half, my father reassured me of God's goodness and love for all of His children, including me. I could feel God's love. Soon I could speak freely—my throat was no longer sore. I returned to school completely healed, and there was no recurrence of the trouble from that time on.
