How wide, Lord?
How wide are Your heavens, Lord?
As wide as a tender parent's embrace?
As wide as the smile on a playmate's face?
That's as wide as a child's eyes can see;
But how wide are Your heavens, Lord?
As wide as the road outside our house?
As wide as the park where I stumble about?
That's as wide as my first eager footsteps will measure;
But how wide are Your heavens, Lord?
As wide as the outer limits of this town?
As wide as the countryside, that's beckoning now...
For my first wide-eyed, independent investigation?
But how wide are Your heavens, Lord?
As the ends of the earth. that technology's linking?
As wide as the span of the galaxies
we probe from this perspective of distance—
hoping to find the answer to
"How wide are Your heavens. Lord?"
But I glimpse a universal Parent's embrace.
And take a first eager step—
to explore the eternal joy beyond every face.
How wide are Your heavens, Lord!
