Finding access to "the heart of prayer"

Has it ever felt as though the help you've really needed had finally slipped just beyond reach? Surely most of us at some point have yearned for sanctuary in the embrace of a tender, comforting love—like being in the arms of a mother who understands you— to quiet fear and still the trembling of sorrow or despair.

One of the great blessings that Christ Jesus' ministry brought to humanity was the proof that the love we need isn't ever lost to us. It is actually here, now—and it heals. Jesus showed his followers the presence and power of God's love. He showed, in fact, that God is Love, infinite, all-embracing, impartial. The deep love of God for His creation was clearly apparent in Jesus' ministry. Comfort for the sorrowing, healing for the sick, mercy and grace for the repentant sinner—these were the natural outcome of Jesus' message. And the Saviour's works and teachings give us the promise that everyone can gain access to the very heart of prayer where God's saving love is known and felt. No one is shut out.

The Science of Christ reveals God as Mother as well as Father, as the Mother that is Love and the Father that is Mind—the one divine Parent of spiritual creation, including man. It is in coming to know God as He is that we come to know our own life's true purpose—to know ourselves as God's man, His spiritual, pure likeness. And it is through prayer that the truth of God and man becomes to us so vivid, tangible, and real that we are literally changed by it. Our thinking is transformed. Our lives are uplifted and restored. Our bodies healed.
