My parents enrolled me in a Christian Science Sunday School...
My parents enrolled me in a Christian Science Sunday School at an early age. There I learned of God and the love He has for His idea, man. I was taught that God is Love and that He is always with us; it is impossible to be separated from our Father-Mother God.
During those early years I had many healings. In most cases my parents or a Christian Science practitioner prayed for me. In two situations I prayed on my own. The first healing took place at a Boy Scout camp in California, when I was away from home for the first time.
The days were filled with the usual swimming, hiking, archery, and campfires at night. Early in the second week we were to go on an important all-day hike. The whole camp was eagerly looking forward to this event. The night before, I came down with all the symptoms of flu. My counselor sent me to the infirmary, and a kind doctor examined me. He stated that for the next three days I would have to stay in the infirmary and rest. Three or four other boys were already there. I asked him if I could go on the hike in the morning. He smiled and said "no."
